Proposed redundancy figures at seven-year low as furlough scheme winds down

Speculators predicted a surge in redundancies this autumn as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme comes to an end on the 30th September. However, this surge doesn’t appear to be forthcoming. Despite 1.9 million workers still being on furlough at the end of June, recent data from the Insolvency Service (the body employers must notify when they are making 20 or more staff redundant) shows that the proposed job cut figures in August were the lowest they have been for 7 years.

Can I turn my shop into a residential property?

We saw significant changes to the commercial use classes system in September 2020. However, one of the most significant adjustments has been implemented without much fanfare or publicity. It is the change that was put in force since 1 August 2021 permitting development to convert shops into residential units; (Use class E to use class C3).

Do I need an EPC on the sale or let of a listed building?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a legal requirement when constructing, selling or renting out a building. The purpose of an EPC, as you might expect, is to show the energy efficiency of a property. An EPC gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and is valid for 10 years. There are, however, commercial EPC exemptions.

EU nationals and National ID Cards

Following the end of the EU Settlement Scheme on 30th June 2021, the UK government has announced an upcoming change to the rules on entry for EU, EEA, and Swiss nationals. Until at least 31st December 2025, in certain circumstances, EU, EEA and Swiss nationals may use their national ID cards to enter the UK.
