Orwins continues UK growth with investment in Clarke Mairs

Clarkslegal is pleased to share that Orwins, the legal services group we joined earlier this year, has expanded its national footprint with the acquisition of Clarke Mairs, a well-established law firm based in Newcastle.

The move represents another important milestone in Orwins’ growth strategy and further strengthens the group’s presence across the UK. With offices now in Newcastle, Manchester, London and Reading, Orwins continues to build a national platform of complementary legal businesses focused on delivering exceptional client service and specialist legal expertise.

Clarke Mairs was founded in 2007 and is known for providing high-quality legal advice to businesses and individuals in the North East and beyond. The firm offers specialist skills in litigation, insolvency, commercial property, company and commercial law, and private client services.

For Clarkslegal, the addition of Clarke Mairs further enhances the breadth of expertise and geographical reach available across the Orwins group. Clients will benefit from access to a wider network of legal specialists, while lawyers across the group will have greater opportunities to collaborate and share expertise.

Clarke Mairs

CEO Dov Black says, “From the outset, it was clear that Clarke Mairs has deservedly earned a reputation for delivering the highest quality legal solutions across the North East and nationally. With their strong local roots and a wide range of specialist skills, they represent a valuable addition to the Orwins group, and we very much look forward to working with them.”

And Paul Rushworth of Clarke Mairs adds, “At Clarke Mairs, we have always focused on a client-centred approach, building an expert team to deliver high-quality practical legal solutions that exceed expectations. In Orwins, we have found a like-minded partner with an identical ethos, and we are excited for our staff and clients about the journey ahead as part of the group.”

The Clarke Mairs leadership team will stay with the business. This will ensure continuity for clients and colleagues and support the firm’s next phase of growth as part of the Orwins group.

“From the outset, it was clear that Clarke Mairs has deservedly earned a reputation for delivering the highest quality legal solutions across the North East and nationally.”

Since joining Orwins, Clarkslegal has continued to provide the same practical, commercially focused legal advice that clients value, while benefiting from the additional scale, expertise and opportunities that come from being part of a growing national legal services group. The addition of Clarke Mairs is another positive step in that journey, strengthening the group’s ability to support clients across a wider range of sectors, services and locations.

As Orwins continues to grow, Clarkslegal remains committed to delivering outstanding service to clients while playing an active role in the development of a stronger, nationally connected legal group.

Procurement challenges: What documents and information are bidders entitled to?

A tricky feature of public procurement challenges for unsuccessful bidders is that contracting authorities usually hold all the cards. When the outcome of a tender conducted under the Procurement Act 2023 has been decided, authorities must provide bidders with an Assessment Summary containing their scores for each of the award criteria and those of the successful bidder and an explanation for those scores.
