Employment Lawyer

Overview

Clarkslegal LLP is a leading commercial law firm with offices in Reading and London.

Our employment law team, has an excellent reputation, having enjoyed consistently high ratings in the legal directories for several years. Our clients range from large Plc’s and companies with international HQs to innovative start-ups.

An opportunity has arisen for an additional solicitor with the equivalent of up to 1-4 years relevant experience to support and add to the expertise in our Reading office, who will report into the Employment Partners and Associates.

Role Summary

  • You will join our existing Reading based employment team situated in the heart of Reading in Thames Tower right next to Reading Station.
  • You will have day to day conduct of a varied and exciting workload of contentious and non-contentious matters for both Claimants and Respondents. Your key responsibilities will include giving advice (by telephone, in person and/or in writing), drafting documentation (including claim and response forms, witness statements and legal submissions) and conducting negotiations on behalf of the client, advocating in tribunal, advising on or working as part of a team regarding restructuring, TUPE transfers and/or other client projects to include project management. We like to make sure that you have the chance to work with Partners & Associates but also be given the opportunity to have the conduct of cases yourself.
  • We encourage our solicitors to undertake advocacy so they better understand their cases from start to finish and so previous tribunal and advocacy experience is advantageous but not essential. The employment tribunal claims we handle tend to be complex dealing with issues of protected disclosure, discrimination and equal pay. We also manage multiple claims from major clients on fixed fees which require efficient case management. Your role will include day to day work on ET claims from receipt of claim, drafting, taking statements, through to strategy, merits and advocacy where appropriate.
  • Along with the rest of the team you will support the firm’s online HR resource, Employmentbuddy including drafting content.
  • You will participate in and contribute to the team’s know how initiatives and internal training sessions, including delivery of the same.
  • You will help support the business development initiatives of the firm and the team, which may include supporting internal events, and/or attending external events and appropriate networking events in addition to initiating and progressing or supporting social media campaigns and presenting webinars. All ideas are welcome and encouraged!
  • The team is multi-disciplinary, and we also operate a Tech Hub, Investment Network and a HR consultancy in which you will be able to get involved.
